About my patterns...
As I was creating the costumes for my new “Doll Theatre” I shared
some of these designs with friends I had met over the internet and
in collectors clubs. They all wanted copies and suggested I make
them available to a wider group of people who enjoy these dolls and
enjoy sewing in miniature. In 2007, I began offering these doll
patterns on EBay at a reasonable price and have had an enthusiastic
response. The sale of these patterns supports my “doll habit”
allows me to buy new “actors” and special items to make them as
spectacular as possible. So far, I have been able to share my
patterns with a great many people across the United States and now
around the world.
My patterns are unique because they are theatrical and not just
everyday designs. They usually include hats or shoes or other
accessories needed for an effective costume. Because of my teaching
background my instructions are very thorough. In teaching I had to
talk my students through creating my designs and I have anticipated
many questions that might be asked. Each pattern is thought out from
the point of view of a novice seamstress (or “seamster” as a number
of my patterns are purchased by men). I have had many compliments
on how easy my doll patterns are to put together. My EBay feedback
is full of comments like: “So detailed but so easy to put together”,
“The instructions are amazing!” I have received many an email
stating things like:” I’m no great seamstress but this pattern was
so easy to put together and it looks so professional!” Professional
seamstresses (or “seamsters”) and doll makers have contacted me
wanting to create my designs for their dolls; some to sell, others
to enter into competitions.
My new patterns take about a month to perfect. I always take an idea
– make a mock up in muslin – perfect the fit and make a first try.
This is then modified and turned into a paper pattern. I cut another
outfit from this pattern and make it up (these are the ones you
usually see in the pictures). Once the pattern is complete and
printed I try to make one more – just to be sure. Then and only then
is the pattern offered for sale. I try to make my patterns as
versatile as possible. Pattern pieces can be combined to create many
looks out of one pattern
My patterns range from 10 to 25 pages of pattern pieces,
instructions, illustrations and color photographs of the finished
designs. Each pattern is meticulously researched to be as
historically correct as possible then adapted to the miniature size.
Each doll pattern is hand drawn so all of the subtleties of the
patterns are retained; Unlike some of the mechanically produced
patterns. Accessories are discussed and patterns or instructions
are given on how to find and re-create special items out of
pre-existing, readily available material. Example: Making a Fedora
by cutting down a commercial cowboy hat.
My next venture is to tackle making Doll shoes! The Pirate Pattern
already includes a boot pattern for the male dolls - expect more!
I am now working on a method to create fashion high heels for the
ladies so keep an eye out!
My doll patterns are available on EBay with prices ranging from $6
to $10 a piece. Check it out at

My pattern collection will only grow; as Mr. Tonner has come out
with new collections that have already stimulated my imagination.
His Julie Andrews doll has spurred thoughts of many Broadway shows I
have designed. Did you know.......? (See the trivia section). I
have been asked “Do you think you will ever run out ideas for
patterns?” My answer is I’ll be long dead before the ideas will run
out! I have also gotten wonderful ideas from the people who have
purchased my patterns and want more!!!
I hope you will sign up for my newsletter on EBay where I can let
you know about my new patterns, new found sources and other items I
might have available for our little people. (again if you can’t get
